Managed Forest Law Property

Have you heard of “MFL” property?

As defined on the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources website “The Managed Forest Law (MFL) is a landowner incentive program that encourages sustainable forestry on private woodlands by reducing and deferring property taxes.”

Private Property Owners can enroll their wooded lands into this program and reduce their property taxes in exchange for managing the property according to an agreement with the WDNR. MFL land may be designated as Open or Closed. Properties enrolled in the MFL – Open program are available to the public for hunting, fishing, cross-country skiing, sight-seeing, and hiking. Properties in the MFL – Closed program are not open to the public.

Each February the WDNR publishes a list of properties in the MFL – Open program. For more information on finding, visiting and using properties in the MFL – Open program, you can check out the WDNR website http://dnr.wi.gov/
