Deer Hunter Survey

It's fall hunting season in Wisconsin. Canada Goose, Bear and Mourning Dove seasons have already begun, and tomorrow is opening day for Cottontail Rabbit, Turkey, Squirrel, Crow, Ruffed Grouse and Whitetail Deer Bow seasons.

And along with the opening of Whitetail Deer Bow season comes the beginning of the 2012 Deer Hunter Whitetail Survey.  Once again the Wisconsin DNR is asking hunters to report on the wildlife they see while they are hunting.  These observations help the DNR keep tabs on the deer population in Wisconsin.

Check out this article on the Wisconsin DNR's website with more information and a link to the survey form 2012 deer hunter wildlife survey begins

A Very Big Black Bear

A possibly record breaking Black Bear was taken in the new hunting zone near Hudson.  Story by Megan Wiebold wqow.com
Hudson (WQOW) - When the DNR opened a new bear hunting zone in Hudson, one man took advantage of it, and may have come out with a Wisconsin record. Lon Feia shot a massive bear this week on his property just north of Hudson, but it wasn't easy.

Never did I have any idea that it would be anything like this," says Lon.

Lon Feia starting baiting for bears back in July, and spent the next two months catching him on camera. When the bear hunt season started, he went to work.

Black Bear Hunting Season

September 7th is the beginning of Black Bear Hunting season in Wisconsin. The first week of the season will be for hunters with dogs only in zones A, B and D, and the season ends October 11th. 9005 permits have been issued, and the harvest quota is 5,235 bear, the same number as 2010.

If you'd like to get into next year's hunt, you'll need a Class A bear license. These are very popular and are awarded by a “preference point lottery system”. For information on how this works visit the Wisconsin DNR site Getting a Bear License.
